About iGEM
iGEM Foundation is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of synthetic biology through education, competition, and open collaboration. Since 2004, iGEM has been creating and establishing initiatives to support the growth of synthetic biology throughout the world. Learn more about iGEM's vision here: igem.org/vision.
At HQ, a small team shapes the full iGEM experience: building the visual identity and brand system for each edition, producing graphic and video content, managing communications, creating spatial installations, and delivering large-format event production. The creative output across these areas is extensive and continues to grow each year. We see significant opportunity to bring more of this work to our social media channels, telling richer stories, reaching wider audiences, and better reflecting the energy and ambition of the iGEM community. The opportunity
In 2026, iGEM has redefined its social media strategy — consolidating its account structure, establishing a clear visual direction, and setting the foundation for a new phase of content creation. We are looking for a Creative Content Intern to support this effort — working within the Communications team and under the creative guidance of our lead designer, bringing visual direction to life across our channels, and contributing fresh ideas along the way.
This is not a general social media management role. It sits at the intersection of design and communication, and requires someone who can translate high-quality creative work into compelling, platform-native content.
You will both execute content based on existing creative direction and take ownership of new ideas, from concept to publication. You will work closely with the lead designer in a fast-paced, feedback-driven environment where iteration and attention to detail are key.
Responsibilities
- Produce visual content for social media, including reels, stories, short-form video, and static formats, working both from existing design assets and material you capture yourself.
- Write short-form copy (captions, on-screen text) to support your content, with a strong understanding of text as a compositional element within visual design.
- Apply a solid understanding of layout, visual hierarchy, typography, and color theory across all content produced. Understand, follow, and consistently apply iGEM's design guidelines.
- Maintain a content rhythm across channels, balancing planned output with reactive, in-the-moment content. Anticipate upcoming projects and prepare content in advance.
- Monitor basic performance metrics, prepare visual reports of results, and present findings to the team to inform creative decisions.
- Propose content ideas and formats aligned with iGEM's visual identity and connected to current trends.
- Actively engage with the community across channels: responding to comments and DMs, interacting with relevant accounts, and maintaining a consistent, approachable presence.
- Propose and execute engagement dynamics: polls, Q&As, challenges, interactive stories, and other formats that invite the community to participate and connect with iGEM.
- Provide on-site content coverage, documentation, and production support during the Grand Jamboree, iGEM's flagship annual event, bringing together thousands of participants from around the world in Paris.
Requirements
- Strong visual sensibility and the ability to think natively in social media formats, understanding pacing, framing, hooks, and platform-specific conventions.
- Strong proficiency in short-form video editing (CapCut, Premiere Pro), with a clear understanding of hooks, pacing, and retention. This is essential.
- Good knowledge of Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), and Canva.
- Organized and methodical in file management: naming conventions, folder structures, and file formats.
- A portfolio, personal project, or active social media presence that demonstrates your creative approach and visual thinking.
- Excellent written and spoken English. French is a plus.
- Understand the differences in audience and content approach across platforms: Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
- Current student or recent graduate in design, visual communication, multimedia, or a related discipline.
- Interest in science, technology, or previous experience in iGEM is a plus.
- Based in or able to relocate to Paris is preferred but not required.
What iGEM offers
- Direct mentorship in visual identity and creative direction from an experienced designer, with exposure to how a global brand's visual language is developed and applied across physical products, digital communication, spatial design, and character-based storytelling.
- A structured onboarding to familiarize you with iGEM's visual identity, tools, and ongoing projects.
- Work from iGEM's headquarters in central Paris, with flexibility for remote work.
- Opportunity to attend team meetings and project development sessions alongside staff from design, production, video, and photography, gaining cross-disciplinary exposure beyond your core role.
- Join at a pivotal moment in how iGEM communicates with the world, with the chance to shape that from the start.
- Your work would have immediate visibility across iGEM's channels.
- There is a possibility for the internship to be extended or to evolve into a longer-term collaboration based on performance and mutual fit.
How to apply
Send us an email with your CV and a portfolio or link to your work. This can be a design portfolio, a personal Instagram or TikTok account, a Behance page, or any format that demonstrates how you think visually and approach content creation.

Selection process: Portfolio review → Practical assignment → Interview → Decision.
Above all, we're looking for someone who connects with iGEM's mission, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is eager to create work that reaches and inspires a global community.
