🌊 About Syroco
Syroco is building the technologies that will help decarbonise maritime transportation.
Every day, hundreds of vessels generate streams of operational, environmental and navigational data. We transform these data into optimisation decisions that reduce fuel consumption and emissions at sea.
This requires combining physics, machine learning, software engineering and large-scale data systems.
We are a team of engineers, scientists and naval architects working on problems that are both intellectually challenging and immediately connected to the real world.
🎯 The Role
Every day, our platform receives and processes data from vessels operating all around the world.
These data are used to understand vessel behaviour, evaluate performance, support operational decisions and ultimately help reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
As the platform grows, so does the challenge of operating it.
These are some of the questions you will work on.
As part of the Data team, you will contribute to the development of the internal tools, analyses and automation that support our platform on a daily basis. You will work with maritime datasets, production systems and engineering teams, while collaborating closely with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Software Engineers and Naval Architects.
The role is intentionally broad. Depending on your interests and on ongoing projects, you may spend time analysing data, investigating anomalies, improving internal tooling, automating operational workflows or exploring new applications of AI.
More than a predefined list of tasks, we see this internship as an opportunity to take ownership of meaningful problems and help us build the next generation of tools used to understand and operate our data platform.
🧰 Who We Are Looking For
You are currently completing a Master’s degree or the final year of an engineering school.
You enjoy understanding how things work. Faced with a dataset, a software system or an unexpected behaviour, your instinct is to investigate, identify the underlying mechanisms and form your own understanding before jumping to conclusions.
You are comfortable working with open-ended questions where the path to the answer is not always obvious. You like combining analytical thinking with practical implementation, and you care about building solutions that are useful in practice.
Your background may be in computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics or engineering. Previous experience in data science, software engineering or machine learning is welcome, but not required.
More than a particular technical stack, we value curiosity, sound judgement, autonomy and the ability to learn quickly.
Most importantly, you are excited by the idea of working on real-world problems with data, software and AI, alongside a team of engineers and scientists building products that are used every day.
💡 What You Can Expect
This is a hands-on internship with real ownership.
You will work closely with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Software Engineers and Naval Architects, contribute to production systems and see your work used by teams across the company.
One of the unique aspects of the role is the opportunity to work at the intersection of data and the physical world. Understanding vessel behaviour often requires combining observations from data with engineering intuition and maritime expertise. You’ll regularly interact with specialists from different backgrounds and learn how operational, physical and data-driven perspectives complement one another.
You will gain exposure to large-scale maritime datasets, modern data platforms, AI-powered tools and the challenges that arise when operating systems connected to the real world.
The internship offers the opportunity to develop both technical depth and breadth, while working on a topic that matters.
