Commercial Intern

Welcome to The Usual, the design hotel and F&B hotspot you've been waiting for. Our incredible design hotels offer more than just accommodations, they provide a warm and inviting atmosphere where guests are treated like friends.

Forget about the word ''intern''. We care about who you are and what values you bring to the table. We are seeking an ambitious, commercially minded personality to join our central commercial team. From our office base in Amsterdam you will support our sales and revenue efforts across the group, with a special focus on the pre-opening and opening phase of The Usual Florence. You enjoy a mix of analysis, coordination, and the buzz of getting deals and partnerships off the ground. Are you interested in gaining a deeper understanding of how a hotel group wins business, builds demand, and prices its rooms, both on the strategic side of things and in the day to day? Energised by people and thrive in high pace environments? Do you prefer meaningful and deeper conversations over scripted and standardised ones? You prefer wearing your personal clothing over a formal uniform? If you want to get to know hotel commercial operations from a group- and office perspective, this is your chance. Join us in making more conscious travel The Usual.

Be you with us

We're committed to being a hotel that won't treat the planet like a hotel. We think that travel can be a force for good. Our solution-oriented group of optimists is committed to offering welcoming city trips that empower and inspire our guests, our colleagues, and the locals to do good, every step of the way.

At our workplace, we foster an empowering environment where individuals are encouraged to unleash their full potential. Our team embraces a warm and welcoming atmosphere, creating a sense of belonging and support for everyone. Collaboration is at the heart of our culture, as we believe that great achievements are made through teamwork and shared ideas. We are a game-changing company, constantly pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo of traditional hospitality. Join us in making travel accessible to all and experience a workplace where being your authentic self is celebrated.

The role

No two days are the same. One day, you might be building a prospect list and preparing outreach for a new corporate account. Another day, you could be pulling together a rate comparison, updating the sales pipeline, or supporting the pre-opening commercial set-up for The Usual Florence. On other days, you may find yourself preparing a proposal, coordinating a site inspection, analysing booking and channel data, or contributing to discussions about how we grow demand across the group. Your work sits primarily with the sales team, with a supporting role towards the revenue team. You will be the analytical, administrative, and coordinating engine that keeps commercial activity moving.

As part of your daily responsibilities, you will be engaged in:

  • Support the sales team with prospecting, account research, outreach preparation, and follow-up to help grow corporate, MICE, and travel trade business.
  • Maintain and tidy the CRM and sales pipeline, ensuring accounts, contacts, activities, and opportunities are accurate and up to date.
  • Prepare proposals, rate sheets, presentations, and commercial documentation to a high and consistent standard.
  • Coordinate site inspections, fam trips, client meetings, and commercial events, handling the logistics and the follow-up.
  • Support the revenue team with data gathering, rate and competitor checks, and basic pick-up and performance reporting.
  • Pull together commercial data from PMS, channel manager, and reporting tools into clear, actionable overviews for the team.
  • Help translate the data into stories, turning numbers into clear insights and a narrative the team can act on.
  • Work closely with our external commercial partners, tracking and dashboarding their performance so we always know where we stand.
  • Support the commercial set-up for the pre-opening and opening phase of The Usual Florence, from prospect mapping and partnership coordination to launch-readiness of sales tools and materials.
  • Help keep distribution and content accurate and consistent across channels, OTAs, and our own booking funnel.
  • Track commercial deliverables, deadlines, and actions, keeping projects organised and on schedule.
  • Take ownership of administrative and coordinating tasks across the commercial function, spotting friction and proposing improvements.

What You'll Bring To The Table

  • Currently studying an HBO programme (Hospitality Management is preferred).
  • Analytical and commercially minded, comfortable working with numbers, data, and the story behind them.
  • Strong administrative and coordinating skills, organised, accurate, and able to keep many threads moving at once.
  • Basic understanding of hotel commercial functions (Sales, Revenue, Distribution) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with hospitality finance basics (rate, occupancy, RevPAR, forecasting) is a plus.
  • Interest in pre-opening projects, sales, and revenue management in hospitality.
  • Strong MS Office skills (Excel for analysis, PowerPoint for presentations, Word for documentation).
  • Curiosity for systems and willingness to learn commercial tools (CRM, PMS, channel manager, or other operational tools).
  • Strong communication skills in English (and preferably one other language).
  • Able to engage with colleagues and clients at different levels, from line employees to management.
  • Flexibility and adaptability: able to switch between analytical tasks, administrative coordination, and commercial support.
  • Available for a minimum of six months, starting latest by September 2026.

What's in it for you?

  • €500,- gross internship allowance per month;
  • Staff lunch included;
  • 5 holidays to relax and unwind throughout the year;

  • Opportunities to develop and improve your commercial and leadership skills;
  • The opportunity to join an innovative, sustainable, international hospitality group that's committed to not just building new hotels but building a brand;
  • If a success from both sides, potential opportunity to stay after your internship;
  • Are you fond of your co-workers and enjoy spending time with them? Join us for get-togethers, which include food and beverages, to further strengthen those connections;
  • Discount for you and family while enjoying time off (relax, eat, sleep, meet, and play) in our hotels;
  • Joining our team will give you the unique chance to be part of a major transformation in hospitality, leaving a long-lasting impact;
  • Extra time off to volunteer with our charities.
